Placenta encapsulation has become a growing practice in the United States. New mothers are learning the amazing organ, which helped to grow and nourish their unborn baby, can also nourish their own body. Traditional Chinese Medicine has celebrated the placenta, considered baby's first friend, in many different ways for thousands of years. Some choose burial rituals, some choose to consume the placenta in various ways to share with their family, and others chose encapsulation. People have been consuming placenta post birth to counter of all the physiologic changes in the postpartum period. New mothers may experience fatigue, blood loss, and a sudden decrease in the elevated pregnancy hormones. These changes are thought to be key components to developing "baby blues." Placenta encapsulation assists with replenishing the body with natural iron, protein, and a plethora of essential nutrients. Your placenta will be prepared using the raw method. This method uses low heat to slowly dehydrate the placenta to preserve as many nutrients as possible. The process begins with gently washing the placenta. Next the placenta is sliced thinly and placed into the dehydrator. Once fully dehydrated the pieces are finely ground into a powder with a food processor. The powder is filled into the capsule of your choice and placed into a glass jar. Your placenta may also be prepared using Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), in which it is first steamed with lemons, ginger, and peppers before dehydrating. TCM is a very popular method of preparation, however I do not offer it at this time.
